Board Member & Educational Leader

Alanna Vaneps

Alanna Vaneps

Alanna Vaneps brings over 25 years of experience in education, with a focus on the formative years of children from early childhood through elementary school. Her philosophy is grounded in research-based practices and a belief that children thrive in environments that encourage exploration, authentic learning opportunities, and meaningful engagement with a wide variety of literature. Her commitment to literacy extends beyond academic achievement; she strives to cultivate curiosity, connection, and a genuine love of reading in every child.

Alanna’s expertise has been shaped through extensive training in the Science of Reading, Montessori education, International Baccalaureate Primary Years and Diploma Programmes, language immersion programs, and national-level professional learning across the United States.

She began her career as an early literacy teacher and director in the Montessori tradition before becoming a kindergarten teacher, experiences that shaped her understanding of the critical role early learning plays in a child’s development. Her passion for educational leadership later led her to serve as a Curriculum Director and elementary school principal, where she supported educators in implementing high-impact instructional practices and creating engaging, literacy-rich learning environments.

Alanna currently serves as the PreK–Elementary Student Services Coordinator for Missoula County Public Schools, collaborating with schools, families, community organizations, and partners to strengthen opportunities and build strong foundations for Montana’s youngest learners as they grow into their elementary years.

As a board member of Reading Opens Your World, Alanna brings her experience in early learning, literacy, and educational leadership together with a deep commitment to connecting children and families with books and fostering a lifelong love of reading.
